Fusion Insulation's ANswer to underfloor insulation problems
Here at Fusion we don’t believe there’s such a thing as a “bad decision”. There are however decisions made with bad information. You've come the right place to get good information on the best insulation for your building. Really good decisions come from having the best information and when it comes to that fairly mega decision of picking the Best Under- Floor Insulation you really only get one shot to make the right decision.If you’ve dreamed of floors so warm that you could sleep naked on them, then what we are about to tell you will rock your world. If you’ve just been in too many homes, apartments and buildings where you didn’t feel comfortable walking around barefoot then my dear reader help is at hand. What we are about to tell you will put you in the driving seat when it comes to deciding what’s good and what’s a downright useless to put in your floors
Lets us take you through some of the pitfalls that so many people make when deciding on what’s a good under floor insulation.
Most of us that are lucky enough to get a second chance at building or renovating our dream home, arrives at that stage where we have to decide on what system or product we will put in our floors to have them performing like heat vaults.
Most of us have been really impressed with under-floor heating systems which can be installed out of sight in the floor . However the weak link in an under floor heating system is the insulation you have protecting that in floor heating system
Thing is, many floors have some form of insulation systems in them. The vast majority of floor insulation is known as “Board” systems. You know those white sheets of styroboard that is put down on top of the sub-floor and then concrete is poured on top.
These sheets have great U values on paper but in practice they have a “weak link”.Just like the strongest chain only being as strong as its weakest link, board systems ‘weak link’ is that they have to be joined and butted up against other sheets and against your riser walls.The simple fact is no one has come up with a fool proof method of joining sheets of insulation together. Where the sheets meet there really is no good way to maintain the continuity of depth and U value of the insulation and through those joints, coldness can leak up from the subterranean sub soil. You floors can in fact turn into a heat sink, sucking heat from your underfloor heating pipes.
The shocking truth is those joints in board insulation system have been scientifically demonstrated to affect rated U values in board insulation by up to 30% .Most builders if they are candid with you will admit that matching and jointing board insulation in the under floor is a real nightmare. It’s the quality control issues that really bug them, of how you make sure that his labourers put everything in just right, place the insulation just so, and butt it together real tight. That’s a management nightmare and if just one gap has been left or if the guys have stood on just one of those sheets and broken it or cracked it then your heat seal has been lost, potentially exposing your floor to cold spots, damp patches and radon gas ingress.
Most builders will tell you that the least enjoyable of building a house, office or building is the storage of bulky insulation materials and the having to painstakingly ensure that the insulation is installed carefully and correctly . A lot of times ‘when a panic is on’ when the concrete wagon is on site, these finer points often get abandoned, thrown out the window in the rush to get some other job done. Most builders would prefer any system that got rid of all those management headaches, freed up storage on site and removed the tricky quality control issues off their already overburdened shoulders.
If only there was an insulation system that would seal the floor like a seamless vapour barrier, was strong enough to walk on without breaking and would remain in place in your concrete and sub-floor, for life, protecting as good on day 1 of year 1, as good in fact throughout the entire life of the building.
Fusion Closed Cell foam has been designed just for this task. Fusion Closed cell foam has a unique killer feature that makes all other insulation systems look like “also rans”.
Lets look at how Spray Foam insulation works in a real world building site situation.
Our Truck arrives on the morning and brings the patented liquid foam formulae with it. Your floor will probably have its radon membrane on it at this stage, but equally we can apply straight onto concrete. That’s when our guys sprays a 3 inch or 4 inch layer of continuous solid foam across your entire floor area right up to and against the riser walls .An entire house foundation can be covered in 1-2 days, seamlessly, without joints, without gaps.
No Joints, No Gaps, No CavitiesEvery nook, every impossible to reach holes is expanded into, filled to the brim with superinsulation foam so you get no cold spots, no leaky joints no gaps . It doesn’t matter how many ducts are coming through the floor, foam could care less if you has a thousand sewer pipes jutting our through the floor. Our super insulating foam seals around them with ease and speedBut foam doesn’t stop there;
“what’s this Super Foam going to cost me. I can’t pay too much or I’ll blow my budget”We don’t want you to either . That’s why we can give you our;

- Because the foam is filled with millions of tiny holes packed full of inert gas, your foam is waterproof and vapour proof, so no damp patches, no moisture ingress and no draughts.
- Because the foam is super dense, workers can walk on it just an hour after it has been sprayed and lay floor pipes on it and then if that’s what’s required pour more concrete, straight on top of our foam. Our foam won’t move, compress, or flake away, ever
- Because our foam is guaranteed for life, you wont every have to worry about subsidence, cracking or shifting. Our German made foam has been designed and tested to withstand the most trying of conditions from the Arctic Circle to Sub Saharan Africa
